Serimax and SapuraEnergy supporting the Mexican market

30/08/2019 – Welding

Serimax and SapuraEnergy successfully completed the Pemex Ayatsil L-16 project.

Another operational success to add to this year’s success stories! SapuraEnergy, a leading global integrated oil & gas services and solutions provider, recently completed a project with Serimax, the Vallourec subsidiary specialized in welding. The project took place at the initiative of Pemex, Mexico’s national oil company.

A demanding project

Located 130 kilometers northwest of Cuidad del Carmen, Ayatsil was the largest oil and gas discovery made by Pemex at the end of 2008. The Ayatsil L-16 project was completed onboard the Sapura 3500, an offshore construction vessel capable of pipe laying in both deep and shallow waters.

The pipeline welding scope of 20km of 30” x 0.938” was successfully completed with an excellent 0.8% repair rate, and a peak performance of 151 welds per day thanks to the excellent teamwork between SapuraEnergy and Serimax.

The opening of a new market

Serimax has been a welding services partner of SapuraEnergy for many years, and through a Master Service Agreement for the last few years.  We have notably cooperated on the offshore E6 project, which was completed ahead of schedule in 2018.

Mexico’s increasing energy needs make it a region of significant growth potential for both Vallourec and Serimax.
