Four years after joining Vallourec North America, in 2021 Denise Moore stepped out of her comfort zone and into a new role as Digital Marketplace Business Manager. In charge of growing Vallourec’s Behub-e platform, she brings passion and a relentless focus on the customer to make the new venture a success

Hello Denise, what is your role within Vallourec?

Hello, I’m the North America Business Manager of Vallourec’s new Behub-e Marketplace. My priority is ensuring the platform is meeting and exceeding expectations—both for Vallourec, and for our customers.
We focus on providing clients with a positive experience, from onboarding to transaction and through to the final payout. Our goal is to increase repeat visits—one of the key metrics we use to measure success. As leader of the North America Behub-e team, I also collaborate with our French colleagues to align our global digital strategy.

What sparked your interest in joining Vallourec?

I like that Vallourec is in tune with the ongoing digital technology evolution that we’re seeing across industries. To me, the launch of the Behub-e Marketplace speaks to the value the Group places on eCommerce solutions. What stood out to me about Behub-e in particular is that this is effectively a startup project, but within a very established and well-regarded global business. I love a challenge, and for me this role offered the perfect balance of excitement and depth.

“I like that Vallourec is in tune with the ongoing digital technology evolution that we’re seeing across industries.”

What excites you about Behub-e, and, more broadly, your role at Vallourec?

I find the sheer potential of this solution exciting, as it could open an alternative revenue stream for Vallourec. New forms of business could also contribute to cycle-proofing the company.
The fact that this is a new venture also provides me with fresh opportunities and challenges. For instance, we expected that initial orders would be small- to medium-sized, but our very first sale was worth $870,000, and required materials shipped from France. Through close collaboration with the Sales and Logistics teams, we were able to quickly learn what we needed to get the shipment out on time.

What skills have helped you succeed in your job?

My background in finance operations helped me develop the skills to manage complex projects, optimize processes and implement systems. Working at Vallourec, I use these skills every day. I’m also proud to say that I aim to provide exceptional customer service. I strive to have a positive mindset in my work, and I bring that to the customer experience. I even keep a sign on my desk that says,

“Proceed as if success is inevitable. To me, these are words to live by.”

How do you overcome challenges? What do you find rewarding about doing so?

The primary challenge I’ve faced is that my background in finance operations is not typical for this role. However, my colleagues have helped me transform this difference into a strength. Working together, we can tackle problems in innovative ways. I appreciate that the Group is so supportive and has given me the chance to step into a new field and make my mark.
As far as rewards go, the ongoing development of the platform, alongside my own career development, have been particularly fulfilling. Getting to work collaboratively with the sales teams has also been rewarding.

What advice would you offer other women in your field?

My advice to other women would be to never underestimate your potential. Work smart and stay passionate about what you do, while being confident in your abilities. Be a problem solver, and of course always be supportive of others around you.
I’d also suggest staying active. Outside of work, I’m committed to my church community and also to my family: my wonderful husband, my three beautiful daughters and now my three amazing grandchildren. I’m a proud Nonna, my grandkids really are the light of my life and so much fun.
