Alors partout dans le monde, et surtout l&agrave; o&ugrave; le contexte g&eacute;ologique favorise les temp&eacute;ratures les plus &eacute;lev&eacute;es, on creuse des puits. Objectif : y injecter des fluides qui se chaufferont au contact de la roche terrestre, puis les ramener &agrave; la surface &agrave; haute temp&eacute;rature pour produire directement de la chaleur ou faire tourner les turbines d&rsquo;une centrale &eacute;lectrique. Plus on creuse, plus la temp&eacute;rature monte (en moyenne de 3&deg;C pour 100 m de profondeur) et cela donne diff&eacute;rents types de g&eacute;othermie.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>\n<br>\nLes exploitations les moins profondes (plusieurs dizaines de m&egrave;tres et jusqu&rsquo;&agrave; 30&deg;C) alimentent le chauffage et la climatisation individuelle. Une pompe &agrave; chaleur suffit pour cette g&eacute;othermie dite &ldquo;&agrave; tr&egrave;s basse &eacute;nergie&rdquo;. &Agrave; l&rsquo;autre extr&ecirc;me, la g&eacute;othermie &ldquo;de moyenne et haute &eacute;nergie&rdquo; plonge &agrave; jusqu&rsquo;&agrave; 5000 m de fond pour chauffer le fluide &agrave; environ 140&deg;C et produire de l&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute;. Une vingtaine de pays dans le monde en ont fait un levier de leur transition &eacute;nerg&eacute;tique. Les &Eacute;tats-Unis disposent d&rsquo;un des plus grands &eacute;quipements du genre, The Geysers, au Nord de San Francisco, o&ugrave; 350 puits alimentent 21 centrales &eacute;lectriques. La g&eacute;othermie repr&eacute;sente 17 % de l&rsquo;&eacute;lectricit&eacute; produite aux Philippines, N&deg;2 mondial qui b&eacute;n&eacute;ficie d&rsquo;une localisation dans une zone de rift. Elle s&rsquo;&eacute;tend jusqu&rsquo;en Indon&eacute;sie qui concentre 40 % des r&eacute;serves mondiales et d&eacute;veloppe de nombreux projets de forages. Leader de la g&eacute;othermie en Afrique, le Kenya dispose d&rsquo;un potentiel immense, notamment dans la vall&eacute;e du Grand Rift, et vise 5 GW d&rsquo;ici 2030. Avec pr&egrave;s de 4 000 tonnes de tubes OCTG Vallourec et leurs connexions VAM&reg; haute r&eacute;sistance.&nbsp;<br>\n<br>\n&Agrave; l&rsquo;Ouest de Djibouti, le lac sal&eacute; Assal est situ&eacute; aux portes de la vall&eacute;e du Grand Rift, r&eacute;gion connue pour son activit&eacute; sismique et volcanique. Pour capter cette &eacute;nergie, la campagne de forage bat son plein. 4 puits iront extraire de l&rsquo;eau de mer concentr&eacute;e chauff&eacute;e &agrave; 305&deg;C par 2 500 m de fond o&ugrave; la temp&eacute;rature pourra monter jusqu&rsquo;&agrave; 360&deg;C !
