Solutions for the mechanical engineering industry

Vallourec is the world leader in seamless tubes for mechanical engineering applications

Seamless tubes are used in a wide range of engineering applications, including hydraulic cylinders, axles, cranes, mining equipment and agriculture machinery. The distribution network plays an important role in this local and often fragmented market, by grouping together orders from end users that generally only require small quantities. The wide range of sizes and the machining facilities available at Vallourec plants enable these products to be advantageously used instead of forgings, castings, rolled and welded sheet tubes, pierced bars, etc.

Main Vallourec products

  • Tubes in standard or special grades and standard or custom sizes
  • Cold-rolled rings
  • Formed parts (machined, shot-blasted, sanded, etc.)

In order to satisfy its customers' specialist requirements, Vallourec has developed a range of micro-alloyed, fine-grain carbon steel tubes sold through the Mecaplus® and Ecoval® brands. These tubes satisfy even the most stringent machinability requirements of engineering customers. The Group also develops custom solutions.

What are our tubes used for?

Our high-strength tubes are used, for example, to manufacture lattice booms for Terex crawler cranes in Germany.

These tubes were instrumental in the development of the gigantic CC 8800-1 TWIN, which with its twin jib is the world's most powerful lattice boom crawler crane, capable of carrying loads of up to 3,200 tonnes.

This incredible lifting power enables substantial time and space savings when assembling large industrial facilities.

Investing in PFP™ to meet specific customer needs

Premium forged pipes

The new PFP™ ("Premium Forged Pipes") installation, consisting of a unique combination of a piercing mill and a 1,200-tonne forge, began operating at the Aulnoye plant in 2008. This new facility has made it possible to extend the size range (in particular, by increasing the maximum length of thick-walled tubes by almost 40%) and enhance product quality (through improved tolerances and a higher-quality internal surface finish), especially for high-alloy steels, making the process particularly suitable for premium tube production.
