Application

With the need for increased drilling capabilities in midwater and deepwater exploration areas as well as the evolution of offshore windparks, new floating equipment has been designed and constructed in recent years. Drill ships and special-purpose vessels feature highly efficient layouts with optimized dimensions and integrated application specific units. Regarding their functional and constructive demands, however, their topside modules and units are quite similar to the structures in stationary platforms and rigs. In special vessels, Vallourec offshore pipes and sections therefore may also be used as

  • Bracings for leg structures
  • Structurals tubes for crane structures/ lifting equipment
  • Topside 

 

Challenges

Topside components of floating equipment such as drill ships, wind turbine installation vessels and other floating units have to be streamlined, robust and reliable under demanding weather conditions and at the same time optimized in construction, assembly, operation, maintenance and in their weight/strength ratio.

 

Products and Solutions

With mechanical properties exceeding all relevant standards, excellent weldability properties and a rich choice of outside diameters/wall thicknesses and grades specifically dedicated to offshore applications, Vallourec offers a comprehensive tube program for the cost effective construction of topside structures of special purpose vessels. Product ranges specifically dedicated to offshore demands such as the proprietary Oceanfit® series support the cost effective implementation of modules streamlined in design and costs and optimized in their strength to weight ratio.

Product Properties

  • Mechanical properties exceeding the requirements of  API 5L, EN 10225 and EN 10210 as well as NORSOK requirements and fully in compliance with Det Norske Veritas Offshore Standard DNVGL-OS-B101 and American Bureau of Shipping Rules MODU PART 3 – Hull Construction and Equipment.
  • Excellent weldability by all current welding processes, both manual and automatic, due to low carbon content and low CEV values and a uniform microstructure – Oceanfit® WeldFIT series.
  • More welding details including results of weldability tests can be provided at the time of enquiry and order.
  • Specifically designed for offshore applications with very low operating temperatures – down to -60 °C.
