When looking beyond Vallourec's family of standard high-strength steels for mechanical engineering applications, Forterior® is the first option you might consider. It has a higher yield strength (between 470 and 590 MPa, depending on steel grade) and good impact test values guaranteed up to -40 °C. The Forterior® series consists of five grades with specific mechanical properties (see table below).
Forterior® grades support the design of weight-optimized structures without compromising on performance. This means less material and thus lighter structures, or enhanced performance with the same total structure weight. Popular applications for Forterior® are highly stressed heavy-wall hydraulic cylinders and structural hollow sections (MSH) for agricultural machinery.
1) Forterior® 630 may contain up to 0.23 % C.2) A restriction in terms of P max. 0.025 % and S max. 0.025 % can be agreed.3) V+Nb max. 0.20 % and V+Nb+Ti max. 0.22 %.
1) AR: As rolled; N: normalized or normalizing formed; QT: quenched and tempered.
2) Values apply for the lowest wall thickness range defined in Vallourec materials datasheets. Please contact us for further information.
