The VMec® grade series fills the yield strength gap between basic and QT materials, with specified minimum yield strengths between 40 ksi (grade C) and 80 ksi (grade 4140 Q&T), i.e. three different grades of 50, 60 and 70 ksi. The "better than standard approach" of VMec® grades features the combination of higher yield strength, added impact toughness and a restricted chemical composition selected for better weldability, with the VMec® 50 grade being already fully consistent with grade B/C according to ASTM A106 and ASME SA-106. VMec® grades are generally weldable by all current manual and automatic methods.

 

Applications

Material and chemical profiles of the VMec® grades qualify them as premium solutions for mechanicals in demanding application environments, where weight reduction without compromising on performance or an enhancement of performance with the same total structure weight are specified.
