Vallourec has donated Structural Hollow Sections to build bridges in rural Africa.

January 2014, Düsseldorf - Vallourec has donated Structural Hollow Sections (MSH) to build bridges in Africa. This gift was symbolically given to representatives from the German organization Engineers without Borders at a steel construction conference in Munich.

Bridges play a vital role in many developing regions. They secure access to food, medical care, education, and jobs, and allow contact with friends and relatives. With this gift of Hollow Sections, Vallourec has provided direct technical aid. These Vallourec Hollow Sections are easy to handle and can support heavy loads. They therefore make it easier to build bridges that are solid yet light. Beyond the sections themselves, Vallourec is also providing free transport for these construction materials from the production site to the destination port.

The organization Engineers without Borders is heavily involved with bridge building projects in rural Africa. Whenever possible, it tries to tap into local skills, such as through bridge building seminars offered to African engineering students.
