Vallourec Star received the SMA 2014 Environmental Stewardship and Recycling Award

Youngstown, Ohio – Vallourec Star, North American subsidiary of Vallourec, proudly received the 2014 Environmental Stewardship and Recycling Award by the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA). The company was recognized for the outstanding results achieved at its newly built state-of-the art water treatment facility that fully embraces the best practices in water reclamation promoted by the SMA.

Vallourec Star water treatment facility produces consistent, high level water quality required in the company's pipe-making and finishing processes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The fully automated facility recaptures and reuses more than 99% of the total water recirculating flow, producing water that is clean enough to drink. Additionally, 97% of solids and waste generated from the manufacturing process are recycled through the company's waste management plant.

Kristin Malosh, Vallourec Star Environmental, Health and Safety manager commented: "The recycling rates we have achieved are significant and reflect Vallourec's commitment to sustainability in all of its forms. Vallourec Star's employees are diligent in putting those principles in action, and we are honored to be recognized by the SMA for our efforts."
