PREON® marine - initial test phase successful

Positive results for Vallourec’s offshore wind turbine foundations.
​​​​​​​​PREON® marine​, the foundation solution for anchoring offshore wind energy turbines developed and patented by Vallourec, has been tested in the Fraunhofer IWES test center for support structures in Hannover since the end of 2014. Initial positive results are now available.
The PREON® marine concept uses four adapter elements as a foundation structure, in conjunction with a four-legged underwater load-bearing structure similar to a power pylon (jacket). Four to six foundation piles made from seamless steel tubes are embedded to a depth of about 25 to 35 m into the seafloor.
At the Fraunhofer test center initial test results have now confirmed that PREON® marine foundation piles can be safely installed in North Sea sand. Further tests will pave the way for the use of PREON® marine piles in other soil types. This is a big step towards a new system for anchoring offshore wind energy turbines on an industrial scale.​
