The stadium, dubbed "Mineirão”, was built in 1965 and is undergoing major renovation works prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Six games will be played in Mineirão, including one semi-final match on July 8, 2014.
The 1,100 metric tons of seamless tubes in corrosion resistant steel will be used to build a roof over the stadium’s 67,000 seats, spanning an area of approximately 13,000 square meters. V & M do Brasil has already started delivering the tubes, and the stadium roof is scheduled to be finished in May.
In 2011, the company also supplied 500 metric tons of structural tubes for another stadium in Brazil, Stadium Raymond Sampaio, better known as “Independência.”
