I have been doing an apprenticeship as an industrial management assistant in Düsseldorf since 2012. I am one of the many apprentices who are trained by Vallourec to satisfy the demand for well-educated workers. I am a third-generation member of this company.
My grandfather worked in the German tube mill and my father has been working in the shipping department in Düsseldorf-Rath for more than 20 years. It was therefore my heartfelt wish to start my career at Vallourec and to carry on the family tradition.
During my apprenticeship, I have been working in different departments, e.g. in the purchasing department, where I assist my workmates. As a result, I learn a lot about the processes in many working areas and I can build up my own network of contacts.
My work requires a great deal of flexibility. I attend the vocational school for three months per year to gain a theoretical grounding. Since the spread of globalization calls for high levels of skills, I am also studying Business Administration Theory in the evenings and at the weekends.
It is a great opportunity for me to be a part of an internationally known company. Vallourec relies on its own trainees and creates an encouraging climate by providing language, public speaking and computer courses.
Activities such as football tournaments boost the collective spirit and contribute to an agreeable working environment.
I see my ongoing career at Vallourec and hope to be successful in my apprenticeship and in my studies. I look forward to new challenges. We shall see what the future will bring.
