Financial Controlling

Nina Financial Controller

After graduating from Vienna University of Business and Economics with a PhD in Sociology and an MA in Economics, most of my professional life has been spent within the steel industry.

I started my career as business unit controller with an Austrian world-leading supplier of refractory materials to steel mills. After five years of working in Italy, Germany and Austria, I made a slight detour to the financial industry for another five years, joining a division of the leading state-owned German bank, which finances projects of German and European companies to improve their global competitiveness.

My main task was to implement a new reporting and controlling system in this new division.

In 2008, I again followed my vocation of working in the steel industry and joined the Vallourec Group in Germany, starting as a Value Manager for the Business Unit Industry.

This job encompassed the following:

  • Analysis of price policies in use and definition of a common reference price policy per segment
  • Monitoring of prices on the basis of the "price engineering" philosophy
  • Quality Management for BU Industry
  • Project Manager for Mill Specialization of BU Industry
  • Periodical management reporting and continuous improvement of the reporting system.

In 2012, I was appointed Financial Controller of the Market Division Industry.

My current tasks are:

  • Periodical management reporting
  • Budgeting and planning revisions of the P&L of Market Division Industry
  • Strategy planning of a consolidated P&L Market Division Industry
  • Monthly cost management of the direct division costs, production costs and cost of R&D projects in the Market Division
  • Working capital (PRI) project
  • Preparation of the data for the European Union for the imposition of anti-dumping measures against foreign tube producers
  • Elaboration of ad-hoc analysis, managerial special-purpose analysis and comments (e.g. monthly business reviews for the board, reference document for CAC40).

Vallourec offers me a variety of opportunities, such as:
  • Due to its worldwide activities, working in an international and highly diversified team of experts.
  • The content of my work is strongly influenced by the combination of challenging technical issues (for an economist) and financial matters.
  • Creativity, responsibility and career development are promoted by the company and are key for improvements, organizational changes and successful project realization.

Looking ahead, I wish to continue to occupy a position with a financial, controlling or financial internal audit background either in a market division, in a mill or at corporate level.
