Vallourec to supply OCTG products for its first Geothermal Project in Indonesia

05/11/2020 – Renewables

The contract signed with PT Geo Dipa Energi (GDE), Indonesia’s state-owned enterprise which focus on geothermal exploration, development and power generation, is to deliver 8,000 tons of Casing for the development of Geothermal Power Plant Dieng Unit 2 and Patuha Unit 2 in Central and West Java, Indonesia. A project sponsored and approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

It is a great success because of the contributions from teams located across the world (USA, France and of course Indonesia) working together remotely at a time people movement is restricted ; it is also a major step to reinforce our positions in geothermal and support energy transition.
Alexandre Valdelièvre
Vallourec Commercial Director, South East Asia

Asian Development Bank has approved $300 million loan for GDE on this project with the aim to provide a sustainable, reliable and efficient energy. The investment will increase GDE installed geothermal capacity by 110 MW and it’s a part of Indonesia’s national target to reach 7,000 MW installed geothermal capacity by 2030. Indonesia has the world’s largest geothermal potential, at an estimated 29,000 MW vs current capacity of 2,100 MW.

Pipes will be primarily threaded with VAM® 21 connections in order to meet the technical challenges of the Geothermal environment.

The first deliveries will begin by the end of this year and the project will be completed in 2021.
